Evidence-based Talk Therapy Tailored to your Needs
Individual psychotherapy (aka talk therapy) is a collaborative, one-on-one process aimed at understanding the challenges you face and building practical, lasting change. If you’re dealing with specific difficulties (like anxiety, low mood, a hard life transition) or general dissatisfaction in some area of life, psychotherapy is dedicated space with a clinician trained to help.
At Discourse Psychology Centre, care is evidence-based, tailored to your needs, and guided by ongoing clinical assessment rather than a fixed script.
All sessions are virtual and available anywhere in Ontario.

FAQs
What is individual psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy (also called talk therapy or just therapy), is one-on-one work with a trained clinician, usually a Psychologist or Psychotherapist, to understand and change the patterns of thought, emotion and behaviour causing or maintaining mental health problems.
At Discourse Psychology Centre, psychotherapy is tailored to your needs, aimed at addressing specific problems or a more general sense of being stuck.
How long does therapy take?
It depends on what you're working on. Some concerns respond well to shorter, focused work. Others benefit from longer-term support. Treatment is guided by ongoing assessment, and you and your psychologist review progress together rather than committing to a fixed number of sessions upfront.
Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person?
For most concerns, research shows virtual therapy is comparably effective to in-person care, with the added benefits of no commute and more flexible scheduling.
The most important piece to therapy is whether you feel comfortable talking openly in your session. Its best for you to choose the format that will most help you do so.
Is therapy covered by insurance?
Services delivered by a registered psychologist are often covered by many extended health benefit plans. Check your plan for "Registered Psychologist" coverage, and see our Fees and Insurance page for details.
