Psychologists are highly trained mental health therapists. Your psychologist will probably start therapy with a formal or informal assessment, where they let you lead the conversation about your concerns and goals.

They will use evidence-based methods like CBT, DBT, EFT or Psychodynamic Therapy to address emotional, behavioral, and psychological concerns.

Our psychologists treat most mental health problems, including as depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, stress and relationship problems.

We also offer couples therapy to improve communication and to challenge negative relationship patterns.

We provide CBT, DBT, EFT, and Psychodynamic Therapy to adults and adolescents to deal with emotional problems and to enhance relationships.

Couples therapy (some people call it relationship coaching) can be helpful for many couples. Some couples come to couples therapy when the relationship is just starting to try and learn more about each other and build healthy communications from the get-go.

Other couples come to couples therapy after problems have started to affect their relationship, looking to improve the way they relate to one another.

Others look for couples therapy to help make a decision about their goals for the future, particularly if they are trying to decide whether or not to separate, divorce or make a commitment to work on their relationship.

A relationship coach is a generic term for individuals who provide couples counseling. The tricky thing is that the term relationship coach is not protected by legislation in Ontario. In other words, people can claim the title of relationship coach, even if they do not have rigorous training to provide couples counseling or have never been supervised providing therapy for couples.

Psychologists who offer couples therapy or couples counseling have to demonstrate competency working with couples before the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario will approve them to provide therapy for couples. Usually this means rigorous supervised training in couples therapy and graduate-level course work in assessment and therapy for couples.
